Every girl who has dreamed of getting married already has an idea of how she wants to look on her wedding day… more or less. However, with the emergence of new beauty trends and style icons, it is typical for bride-to-be’s to get a little confused about the direction she wants to go aesthetic-wise. And to compound the problem, women who don’t know much about cosmetics and makeup trends find it difficult to describe what they want.
So to help you out, today we’re rounding up some of the most popular bridal looks and talk about what’s going on in their makeup.
This has to be the most requested look among brides and understandably so –you want you, your husband-to-be, and everyone else to recognize you AND you want to feel like well, you. However, the term is quite vague and simply translates to nothing too crazy meaning no over-the-top colors and your foundation should match your skin tone, and it might not be as glamorous as you imagine it in your head. Some brides in the past found themselves disappointed with the au naturel look because it does not match the sophistication of the occasion. We get that you want to look natural but you should definitely go into more detail about which features you want to highlight when describing to your makeup artist how you want to look.
This look over here is what we can call truly natural:
The eyebrows are not overly done, the eyeshadow is barely there, the foundation coverage is light, and the lip color is soft. Not exactly what you had in mind, no? We’re not saying that you can’t have this look on your big day – that is entirely up to you. And this look right here, this is perfect for a low-key outdoor wedding.
This, on the other hand, might be closer to what you’re going for:
There’s a bit more coverage, the eyebrows don’t look artificially drawn in, and her eyes are sporting a soft smoky look.
Smoky eye makeup isn’t just for evenings when you use the right color. And nobody can deny that they look fabulous! What’s the key to this look? Keep everything else soft and neutral.
And oh! No dramatic eye makeup is ever complete without eyelash falsies 😉
Take the dramatic eye look a notch higher with a darker lipstick shade. This look goes well with what else –vintage wedding dresses.
In this look, the dark rose lips complement the smoky eye.
But if you are feeling braver, you can also go for the bold red which gives that old Hollywood vibe. Flash back to Marilyn Monroe‘s signature crimson red lips.
Classic Blushing Bride
This is actually what many women mean when they say they want to look natural on their big day. The dewy skin, bright eyes, and that healthy flush.
In this makeup look, you can see that there is highlight in the corner of the eyes, there are minimal contouring and some strobing going on (that is the highlight on the bridge of the nose and the cheeks), and some lovely pink color on her lips and cheeks.
